Seeking God
A scripture I read today reminded me of 2 words that the Lord gave Rick. One in 1996, another more recently, and another to us both. It prompted me again pray and seek the Lord about them. Also to ask: “Do I fail to follow through and seek further instruction, guidance and wisdom when the Lord speaks to me in His word or through the spoken word? How am I to respond?”
We often don’t understand the full meaning on the first hearing. The Lord may speak a word to comfort, encourage and persevere. A word of correction or warning, correcting our thinking to bring us back into line with His view, plans and purposes. A word can that help us to repent, change our thinking, actions and course we are on. A word of wisdom that instructs – perhaps an answer to prayer for wisdom. It might also be a word that is yet to come to pass. The Lord is for us. He the Good Shepherd Who leads His sheep. (Ps 23, Jn 10) It encourages us and gives us a weapon as we stand and which we can use to resist the opposing schemes of the enemy and our own faithless desires. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might put on the whole armour of God that you may be able to stand against the schemings of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:10-18).
Paul encouraged Timothy, to wage the good warfare, according to previous prophecies concerning him. A word also gives us direction so we will make godly and wise decisions, according to His will and purposes for us and others. “The good thing that was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in you.” 2 Tim.1:6, 13, 14. Also, “.. things that you have heard from me…commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others..”, “ Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Tim. 2:2,15 (NKJ) Often it possess all of these elements requiring us to stand and trust His word as He works and brings His plans to pass. We see this in Prophecies that foretold Christ’s birth, life, death and resurrection. It encourages us to have faith, to persevere, to keep seeking Him. Jesus taught us about the sower and the seed (Matt 13). God sows words into our hearts. As we water them with prayer and faith, weed out the doubts, worries and fears which the enemy tries to sow and the cares of this life, we will reap a harvest that the Lord has for the world and us. We also need to test words and share with someone mature, and remember that the Lord’s words are faithful, true, and He accomplishes what HE WANTS TO, THEY WILL MEAN WHAT HE WANTS THEM TO MEAN. This is why we seek Him about them. Psalm 37.
